I especially love stories with atmospheric writing and compelling characters, as well as stories that teach me something new (insight into a hobby, career, lifestyle). Send me anything with found families, blush-inducing banter, or a quirky cast of characters. I’m also always looking to support underrepresented voices and stories, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, and disabled authors.
I’m not looking for picture books, memoir, political thrillers, children’s books, business books, dystopian, or historical romance.
some of my favorite (non-client) authors
Ali Hazelwood, Helen Hoang, Talia Hibbert, Julia Whelan, Emily Henry, Nina LaCour, Casey McQuiston, Dolly Alderton, Jandy Nelson, Jenny Lee, Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Maureen Johnson, John Green, and M.L. Rio.
what kind of writing inspires me?
I love writing that makes me feel something, whether I’m laughing along with the characters or crying. I’m in awe when an author is able to break down complex feelings into simple metaphors that still punch you in the gut. I adore poetic prose that lingers on a moment as well as propulsive plots (as long as I’m rooting for the characters). Other things I’m always on the lookout for include:
- witty banter and smart dialogue
- unexpected twists and turns
- well-developed, complex characters
- a strong voice that pulls me in
- unhinged plots and messy characters
what I love about my job...
As an agent, you not only spend a wonderful part of your day reading (who could ask for a better job) but you also have the chance to form long-term partnerships with authors, working together to bring out their stories and advocate for their work.
